Custom Made Furniture
by
Chris Cosner

Chris Cosner discovered the world of woodworking in John Fisher’s shop class
while attending New Hope-Solebury High School. Fisher quickly spotted Chris’s talent and encouraged him to
develop his craftsmanship. Chris was also fortunate to work with the late Phillip Powell and Thomas Galbraith
throughout the eighties.

Life intervened, and Chris spent twenty years working as a contractor to support his young
family. But the lure of the woodshop was strong and, when the opportunity arose, Chris started a custom
cabinetry business. Initially, Chris designed and built custom kitchens and baths, but more and more
clients began requesting furniture made from the local hardwoods that he used for his cabinetmaking. Shortly
thereafter, Chris’s furniture was selected to appear in a highly competitive juried woodworking show in New
Hope. His business has flourished ever since.

Chris’s furniture is the antithesis of factory made. His furniture is made from a limited number
of patterns, designs and finishes. Much of the furniture Chris builds is custom designed for
his clients. While some clients may select pieces already made, many use existing work as a starting point from
which to develop their own design with Chris.
